Pittsburgh Paddlefish
Dragon Boat Team for TRRA
Teamwork. Camaraderie. Power.
We're a diverse group of paddlers training on the water from Apr-Nov and indoors through the winter. We compete locally, nationally, and internationally. Join us! All you need is a willingness to work up some sweat, get a little wet, and have a lot of fun!

Mondays and Thursdays at the Abattoir
ab·at·toir [ab-uh-twahr, ab-uh-twahr] noun:
a slaughterhouse (for poor Paddlers)
AKA: Washington's Landing Boathouse on Monday's (7 p.m.) and Thursdays (6:30 p.m.) for the punishment of Paddlefish via winter training regimen. (notice the uncanny proximity of where the WL abattoir used to be located in the late nineteen-hundreds. Any coincidence that the TRRA building is on practically the same location???)
Indoor winter training starts this week! (Saturday's are still outdoors at Millvale for at least another couple of weeks - *phew*!)

Last Chance...

River Quest Anyone?
Although I will be using all my free time this month to pack boxes, I thought some of you might be interested in checking out boat of another color. River Quest has many Saturday tours available, the BIRD SPOTTING TOUR, listed below brought several of you to mind....check it out.

Fall Foliage & Birdspotting Tour
The rivers and islands of Pittsburgh are home to an astonishing variety of flora and fauna. From the upper deck, we'll get a world-class view of the brilliant colors of fall in the river valleys, and explore the science of autumn leaves. We'll also use binoculars and learn to identify local birds by their behavior, coloration, and body shape, with guest experts joining in the fun.

Thank you from Kristi and Claire
To all of those who helped out at HOTO last weekend :)
From Claire:
and from Kristi:PADDLEFISH...THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR COMING OUT AND VOLUNTEERING AT THE HEAD OF THE OHIO ON SATURDAY, AS ALWAYS YOU GAVE THE PEOPLE OF THIS CITY AND OTHER ONES AS WELL, A SUPER FUN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE. YOU GUYS ARE ALL GREAT. THANKS AGAIN.
Paddlefish,
Thank you so much for helping out with the dragon boat rides at the Head of the Ohio. I hope you have rested and are beginning to recover from such a long HOT day! ... I usually start race day with only a few hours of sleep due to inputting data from registration the night before so I often feel that I inadequately express my thanks on the day that I see you. Please know how appreciative I am for all that you do and continue to do as individuals and as a collective group.

Central Catholic Biathlon
Going through racing-season withdrawal already?
It's exactly two months until the annual Central Catholic Biathlon (Dec, 8), so you have plenty of time to get in erg-time and those early morning runs!
The event runs from Washington's Landing Boathouse (early - although the start time's not published yet). There are usually around 100 people competing, including a number of Paddlefish over the past few seasons. And while it's hard to imagine when it is still so hot out, it is a great target for indoor training when the weather's less cooperative :)

If you haven't yet signed up to volunteer (or attend!) it's not too late to do so. Contact Kristi Sparta

Tampa 2011 anyone?
OK, so our minds might be elsewhere right now, but news just in is that Tampa, FL will be hosting the 2011 DB World Championships.
A little closer to Pittsburgh than Sydney :)
FYI - In 2009, the host is currently set as Moscow, Russia - although there seems to be some doubt as to whether they will end up hosting - maybe we could table a bid from Pittsburgh?! (seriously, just kidding)
