Wednesday Practice
Slip some money in that sports bra (or pocket) before practice tomorrow night: we're going to commandeer the boat and paddle over to Redfin Blues for a beer!
Best original dragonboat limerick earns you a free beer ("There once was a paddler named Chuck...."), so get those creative juices flowing! ;-)
2 Comments:
We had a great paddle (something about sharing a number of beers and a number of laughs seems to do beautiful things for our timing).
Lisa wins the limerick contest, hands down, and I hope she'll post some or all of them here. You won't get the full effect of her wonderful spoken rendition, but you'll get a taste of it.
Business items of note:
Lisa's identified a creative fundraiser for us -- we'll serve as research study participants. Our first one is due Monday, so if you weren't there last night to get the form, please ask Lisa for one this weekend. We'll earn $25 each toward the Paddlefish fund for doing this.
Remember your checks (written out to Carolyn) for Giant Eagle cards on Saturday. We need to get money into the Big Bird folks soon. Cards come in $50 or $100 denominations.
We have a potential Paddlefish sponsor for the festival race in Redfin Blues. I'll write a letter to them over the next few days, asking more formally for support.
Lori M. is going to check on the availability of a cabin up at Moraine in early October so we can have an end-of-season retreat to bracket the one this spring.
A number of us will be on vacation over the next couple of weeks. I'll start a thread on the blog for us to note when we won't be able to be at practices so that Ben and Pauline know who to expect to be there.
I'm looking into the possibility of applying for a team grant to get us down to Florida in April for spring training. Balance Bars has one grant program that looks like it might be a fit, but please let me know of any other possibilities.
Please show up Saturday morning (August 7) at about 8:55. We'll get both boats in the water for LTP day and then take out one for a short practice as a team.
And finally -- if you weren't there last night, please ask someone who was to describe for you our experience of getting the boat out of Redfin Blues' docking area. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.....
Kit, thank you for organizing this - I haven't had such a good laugh in a long time. And yes the secret to timing is obviously beer!! Or perhaps just relaxing into it.
I am writing more limericks and will publish the whole lot together when we get around to our membership booklet -- perhaps the retreat would be the place to have a book launch. Meanwhile beware I shall be taking surreptitious photos of everone.
