August Practice Availability
As you've been responding to me about the team meeting this month (to be held August 14th or August 18th), some of you have noted that you've got vacation or camp or school prep commitments that will affect your availability. Unfortunately, that kind of info has a tendency to kind of seep right out of my brain pretty quickly, so I'm not sure who all will be available for practices over the next two weeks and who won't.
Thus this thread.
Please post a comment here on which practices over the next two weeks (August 9 through August 23) you will not be able to attend. This will give Ben and Pauline a sense of who will be coming down on any given day so that they can tailor seating positions and workouts to the individuals (and overall number) who will be present.

I will not be at practice Monday (8/9) or Wednesday (8/11). I expect to be there for the other practices over the next two weeks.
I will not be at practise (I finally get a vacation):
August 14, 16,18,21
I will be at practice on Aug 9, 11, 16 and 18. I will be out-of-town on Aug 14 and tied up at Sixth Pres on Aug 21. Once classes start at La Roche (Aug 23), I can only be there on Saturdays - I'm teaching Monday and Wednesday evenings all fall - I promise to try for a better schedule in the spring!
Neither Ada nor Brenda will be at practices this week (Aug. 9, 11, 14).
I will be at practices on Aug. 16, 18, 21, 23 probably not the 26th but there on the 28th and 30??? Labor Day. I can't speak for Dick and Kate although Kate won't be back in town until the 23.
I won't be at practice on Monday the 23rd.
Venture Outdoors is using the boats on Wednesday the 25th; the Steering Clinic will have the boats on Monday the 30th.
Ben and Pauline are not available to coach today (Wednesday, 8/18) or Saturday (8/21). Can someone wear a watch?
Pauline's training schedule has us working at 80% tonight: 10 rounds of 15 seconds on/15 seconds off, then 10 of 30 seconds on/30 seconds off; 10 of 45 on/45 off; 10 of one minute on/one minute off. There's a one minute rest in between each of those sets of 10.
Our Saturday practices will continue to be timed pieces (at 1000 and 500 meters).
Let me know if you will be at practice Saturday. If we don't have enough people to safely lift the dragonboat into and out of the water, we can have practice with the kayaks!
Looks like we'll have a good group at practice tomorrow -- Ada, Kathi, Bob, Laurie, Dick, Lori M., Jack, Jordan, Margot, someone else I'm forgetting, me -- and maybe a couple of people from Rob Chambers' festival team. (Chuck and I helped them Thursday evening, and I invited them to come down tomorrow so they could have a chance on the water -- we were demonstrating/practicing indoors on folding metal chairs Thursday night!)
Great practice this morning! It was wonderful to be able to see everyone paddling -- we might want to take turns during practice next week giving everyone a chance to sit on that drummer's seat for 5 minutes or so just to watch how good we're getting! (Plus it *is* fun to see the difference after a "lean for 10" is called out!)
Paddling with Carlos, Kevin, Doug, Devon, and Ishmael was fantastic. I hope they can join us again.
